About Us

1st Consolidated Fire District was established in 1970 when Caledonia Volunteer Fire Department consolidated with Caledonia Village, Claridon Township, Scott Township, and Tully Township.  The district also contracted emergency services with Canaan Township (Morrow County).

In 1974 the state laws changed and allowed fire districts to consolidate across county lines.  This is when Canaan Township officially became part of the fire district.

In 1998 the fire district began working part time, when in previous years it was strictly volunteer.

In 2002 the fire district became full time hiring six employees working a rotation of 24 hour on and 48 hours off, with two employees on duty per shift.

In 2003 the full time employees became part of the IAFF union.  1st Consolidated Fire District Union is known as IAFF Local #4322.

In 2007 the fire district hired three more full time employees bringing the number to three employees per shift.

In 2008 the fire district hired a full time 40 hour a week fire chief bringing the number to 10 full time employees.  The department also has 15 part time employees.
